InClub
A user-friendly platform designed for the elderly with disabilities to socialize through events.
Overview
My Role
UX Research, Ideation, Wireframes, UX/UI Design, Usability Testing, Video Creation
I worked with two other team members; I named our team and app, conducted the research, ideated solutions, drew wireframes and prototype, and edited the presenting video.
Challenge
How to support and encourage older people with disabilities to live active by maintaining their physical and mental health as they age?
Timeline
Sep. 2021
Solutions
By empathizing with our target users and generating insights, we scoped the possible solutions, created the prototype, and tested with them.
Key Features
Enable the elderly to find and participate in events nearby
Connect the community to meet and join events together
Voice-assistant caters to the elderly with disabilities
Design Process
Empathy
I went to the hospitals to observe their behaviors and interview the elderly with disabilities.
They were happy to talk with others, even they have never met before while waiting in the hospitals.
They liked to share their own stories and were grateful for us actively talking to them.
The only channel for them to reach information about the events near them is through word of mouth.
Key Insights
According to empathy, I came up with these insights.
-
Although it is inconvenient for them to go out, they are still eager to go out to meet people and have a conversation.
-
They want to engage with society and help others to the best of their abilities.
-
When they stay at home, they have no method to obtain information about the events near them.
How Might We
How might we create opportunities for the elderly with disabilities to socialize and interact in the community?
Ideation
Among the ideation process, I generated three ideas, including Experience Column, Knowledge Exchange and Hiring Disabilities. All are designed for them to value themselves by giving.
Final Selection
A platform for the elderly with disabilities to browse the events around them easily.

Guerrilla Testing
According to the feedback, I redesigned three versions of Home Page.

Final Version
Too much information confuses the elderly.
The design of the right column is a waste of space.
Streamlined design only demonstrates important information.
Usability Testing
We went to the local sub-district office and asked the elderly with disabilities to try our prototype.
Results of Usability Testing
Add a voice-assistant for users to go through the process of registration and booking a cab.
Add a step for users to invite people around them to participate in the events.
Streamline the Event Detail page
Final Design
Reflection
Let User Talk.
I was amazed by how the user operated the prototype. The format of texts and images I thought was clear they didn't even have a clue. Observing how they took step by step and asking what they thought about each element, I understood how the elderly comprehend a digital platform.
